Bulgari Octo Roma Chronograph Steel 103471: The return of an icon with a sporty pulse
The Octo Roma is back, and now it comes with a chronograph. But before we jump to the here and now, let's take a moment back to the past, to the birth of the Octo DNA, which didn't start at Bulgari but with one of the greatest watch designers of all time: Gérald Genta.
From ancient domes to iconic edges: The roots of the Octo
The original Octo was introduced by Bulgari in 2012, but its design DNA goes further back: Gérald Genta, the creative mind behind icons like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and the Patek Philippe Nautilus, designed the first Octo case years earlier. His idea: a case that combines the mathematical purity of the oval with the spiritual symbolism of the octagon, inspired by Roman architecture, especially the eight-sided structures of ancient temples and basilicas.
Bulgari adopted Genta's concept and transformed it into its own design icon, with Italian flair and Swiss substance.
Octo Roma 103471: A new language without forgetting the old
For six years, there was radio silence in the Octo Roma line until Bulgari returned in 2023 with a completely revamped collection. The Octo Roma Chronograph Steel 103471 is the flagship of this evolution. It introduces an in-house chronograph to the Octo Roma family for the first time, but that's just the tip of the stylish iceberg.
Case & Design: Rounder, more refined... more Roman
The 42mm stainless steel case stays true to the typical Bulgari style: octagon meets circle, but now with softer lines and even smoother ergonomics. The new, wider bezel is radially brushed, creating dynamic light reflections when hit by light.
The lugs were shortened and pulled closer to the case so that the watch not only looks good but also wears well. Not a bulky feel, but elegant wrap-around comfort.
The first Octo Roma Chronograph
The big premiere: a chronograph in the Octo Roma family.
Sounds simple, but it wasn't.
The challenge was to seamlessly integrate the chrono pushers into the octagonal case without disrupting the iconic lines. The solution: sharply beveled, visually "hidden" pushers that harmoniously hug the case shape.
The development process of this watch included several movement changes and three years of development time.
Inside beats an in-house automatic chronograph movement that is not only robust and precise but also elegantly integrates the date display at 4:30.
Dial: Luxurious down to the depths
The deep blue dial carries a fine, almost microscopic texture, the same structure known from the rubber strap. The applied indexes with Super-LumiNova ensure perfect readability day and night. Hands? Also luminous.
The finishing plays with contrasts: polished flanks, brushed surfaces, mirror transitions. All well thought out. All high quality. Especially beautiful: the so-called “disco ball effect” of the metal bracelet.
In motion, the light dances over the polished surfaces like at an Italian summer festival.
Play of change on the wrist: strap switch in seconds
Thanks to the new interchangeability system, you can change the strap in seconds, without tools, without swearing. Bulgari delivers the 103471 standard with a stainless steel strap and an additional alligator or leather strap in black or blue. Two looks, one move.

It is masculine, but not brutal, technical, but not cold, luxurious, but not overloaded. And with the first integrated chronograph, it is clear: The Octo Roma is now writing its next chapter.
