Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH is a watch manufacturer in Glashütte, Saxony, which has been part of the Swatch Group since 2000. The company's best-known brand, founded in 1845 by Ferdinand Adolph Lange in Müglitztal, Saxony, is Glashütte Original.

  • The company later manufactured mechanical wristwatches under the brand names “GUB” (purchased clock movements were used here) and “Glashütte Original” (at the same time as the name, the first manufactured mechanical manufacture caliber in Germany with the name GUB 10-30 was used). . “Glashütte Original” initially built simple watches with a date display as well as hours, minutes and seconds.

    The new owners, Heinz W. Pfeifer and Alfred Wallner, redesigned the product range after 1994 and increased the quality of the housing. The company also developed new hand-wound and automatic watch movements and existing ones were further developed. In order to be able to offer complications such as the moon phase, perpetual calendar or power reserve display in the watches, new movements were added. After the end of the Second World War, the Soviet occupying power dismantled all manufacturing facilities. Almost all of the watch companies that had been independent up to that point were merged into one large company in 1951. The VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe (GUB) had the task of supplying the then GDR and later also the states of the RGW (Council for Mutual Economic Aid) with various types of watches.

  • Wristwatch production was well known. In 1990, VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe became Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb GmbH as the legal successor to all previous companies in the Glashütte watch industry.

    The company can also look forward to well-known advertising partners, such as the captain of the German national team Michael Ballack (2006/2007) or the former Formula 1 driver Christian Danner (2006). Negotiations with Audi Motorsport GmbH took place in the summer of 2008.

    Today the product range extends from the PanoDate models (with automatic movement or hand-wound, moon phase, chronograph or tourbillon) to the “Senator” series to the square and sports models. The watches are available in stainless steel, gold or platinum.

    Glashütte Original has numbered all watches and milled the number on the underside of the case. This means that each watch is unique and can be more easily recognized if it is stolen.
