Kurt Klaus, former IWC chief watchmaker, developed the legendary perpetual calendar in 1980. Now IWC is launching its new Portofino Perpetual Calendar. With its 40 mm diameter, the new Portofino Perpetual Calendar is the smallest perpetual calendar that IWC can offer in its product range. The developed mechanism recognizes the different month lengths and leap years up to the year 2100, without manual adjustment.
This technical art is powered by the automatic winding 82650 caliber IWC manufacture movement and has a power reserve of around 60 hours and a water resistance of up to 5 bar. The focus of this caliber was on robustness and precision (a Pellaton winding reinforced with ceramic components). The sapphire glass back gives you a good view of the magnificent work. Three sub-dials (at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock) display the information, perpetual calendar with display of date, day of the week, month, leap year and perpetual moon phase. The moon phase disc is made of solid gold. A diameter of 40 mm is the same for both watches and is ideal for business and cashual looks. The watches are held on the wrist by a blue calfskin strap with a folding clasp.
The new Portofino Perpetual Calendar is available in two variations:
With the reference IW344602 you can find the version made of 18k red gold. The case and folding clasp are made from this high-quality material. Gold-plated hands and appliqués on an argenté-colored dial complete the warm and elegant appearance of the watch.
The cooler version with the reference IW344601 has a stainless steel case with the matching folding clasp, a silver-colored dial with gold-plated hands and appliqués. A highlight of the stainless steel version is that the perpetual calendar was built in stainless steel for the first time in the Portofino collection.
