M.A.D.2 by M.A.D.Editions – When Club Culture Meets Watchmaking Art

M.A.D.2

There are watches that show you the time.
And there are watches that say: "Look at me, feel me, wear me – and forget everyday life for a moment."
The M.A.D.2 from M.A.D.Editions, the creative platform of MB&F mastermind Max Büsser, undoubtedly belongs to the second category.
What once started as a small thank you to friends, partners, and long-time supporters has long since developed into an independent subculture within the watch scene. After the surprise success of the first M.A.D.1 – perhaps you remember the blue model that suddenly appeared everywhere during the Geneva Watch Days – the M.A.D.2 now takes the next consistent step.

And it is at the same time the most wearable model so far.

From art object to daily companion – the development of the M.A.D.

The first M.A.D.1 was less a watch than a statement: a lateral time display, an inverted movement, a design from the future, all with a wink of rebellion.
With the M.A.D.1S, the design became a bit slimmer, the movement more Swiss, the appearance more suitable for everyday use.

The M.A.D.2 goes one step further:
•    The time display moves back to the center of the dial
•    The case is reduced to a slim 12.3 millimeters.
Nevertheless, it remains as idiosyncratic and full of character as you would expect from M.A.D.Editions

Inspiration: When Lausanne club culture meets haute horlogerie

The M.A.D.2 is a tribute to the club scene of the 1990s. Designer Eric Giroud was inspired by the legendary Lausanne nightclub MAD.
The result:
•    A dial with a vinyl texture
•    Jumping hour and wandering minutes reminiscent of a pickup on a turntable
•    A rotor that looks like a glowing Technics turntable
•    Luminous dots that recall a light show on the dance floor in the dark

Even the lettering on the rotor sums it up:
“It’s a mad world.”
We can only agree!

Wearability meets extravagance

With a diameter of 42 millimeters and a height of only 12.3 millimeters, the M.A.D.2 sits noticeably more comfortably on the wrist than its predecessors.
It is expressive without being intrusive, bold but not overwhelming.
Two thoughtful details increase everyday comfort:
•    The high-quality leather strap adapts effortlessly even to slimmer wrists, without additional holes
•    Thanks to the flat case profile, the watch also wears discreetly and elegantly under a shirt.

Inside: Swiss precision meets creative mechanics

Inside works the proven automatic movement G101 from La Joux-Perret, complemented by an in-house module for the jumping hour and wandering minutes.
The result:
•    A fascinating, playful spectacle on the dial
•    64 hours power reserve
•    A visibly working rotor under the sapphire crystal case back
This combination of classical watchmaking art and unconventional design creates the distinctive character of the M.A.D.2.

Who is the M.A.D.2 for?

Not for beginners. Not for purists. And certainly not for people who choose safe design solutions.
This watch is made for:
•    Collectors with a sense for the extraordinary
•    Lovers of independent watchmaking with an urban flair
•    Technology enthusiasts who enjoy unconventional complications
•    People who want their watch to tell a story
If you appreciate the creative signature of Hajime Asaoka, love the playful aesthetics of Kurono Tokyo, or see watches as wearable art, then the M.A.D.2 could be exactly the model you have been looking for.

Conclusion: A little crazy, and just right

The M.A.D.2 is not a watch for everyone. And that is exactly what makes it so fascinating.
It turns reading the time into an experience, like an unexpected track in a club that drowns out everything else for a moment.
It is more wearable than its predecessors, but not more compromising.
Creative, but not pretentious.
And above all: different.
And sometimes that is exactly all a watch needs to be.
