The development of Breitling diving watches

For the 50th anniversary of the Breitling Superocean, Breitling developed the Superocean Heritage, as a reminder of the first diving watch in the Breitling range. This independent model series was not intended to be a pure replica of the first diving watch, but rather a new interpretation. It should appear timeless and not retro. In 2017, a completely renovated version of the retro diving watch was developed, the Breitling Superocean Heritage II. The design of this series was revitalized, but the character of the watch should be retained, which is what made the watch so unique. The metal ring around the minute circle has been replaced by a stainless steel bezel made of ultra-hard high-tech ceramic. In the shape of the hands you can still see the homage to the first Breitling Superocean from 1957. The hour hands of these watches are triangular, while the minute hands are diamond-shaped. The hour markers are slightly conical.

Today's models are no longer only worn and used by professional divers. The watch is now at least as popular on land as it is in the water. The Superocean Heritage II Chronograph 44 Outerknown was created to celebrate the partnership between Breitling and clothing manufacturer Outerknown. The co-founder of this sustainably producing company is surfing legend Kelly Slater. The NATO strap on this watch is made from recycled nylon waste, such as fishing nets, collected from the bottom of the ocean. The packaging of the Superocean Heritage II Outerknown M133132A1C1W1 is also made of the same material. The black case of the watch is made of stainless steel and has a DLC coating, which is a diamond-like carbon. The dial shines in blue beneath the anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The predominant color blue is intended to be reminiscent of the world's oceans and our blue planet.

The Superocean Heritage II Chronograph is available in other versions. The reference A13313161 is available in two models. The cases are made of stainless steel and have a blue ceramic bezel. Both models have a blue dial with silver luminous hands. The difference lies in the bracelet. The reference A13313161C1A1 has an Ocean Classic stainless steel bracelet with folding clasp, in contrast, the A13313161C1S1 comes with an Aero Classic rubber strap.

If you like it classic black, there are the A13313121 models. The stainless steel case has a black unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel. The dial is Volcano black and also has silver luminous hands. The A13313121B1S1 is equipped with a black Aero Classic rubber strap and the A13313121B1A1 has the Ocean Classic stainless steel bracelet.

If the completely black watch is too inconspicuous for you, you can also buy the model with reference U13313121. Here the case is made of stainless steel and 18 carat red gold. On the black ceramic bezel, the numerals and the outer edge are also made of 18 carat red gold. The dial is in Volcano black and the luminous hands are also made of red gold.

All Superocean Heritage II Chronograph watch models have a diameter of 44 mm and are all 15.65 mm high. The watches are all equipped with a cambered, anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The Breitling 13 caliber, which has a power reserve of 48 hours, is hidden everywhere in the various cases. The diving watch is waterproof up to 20 bar. It has a date and day of the week display at 3 o'clock.
